In Rotterdam, Le Marie Marché lands at two locations that feel like each other's opposites. Katendrecht, with its harbour atmosphere and renovated factory buildings, gives the market a raw and warm character. Hillegersberg, leafy and quiet around the Bergsche Plassen lakes, feels like a French village market by the water.

The editions are smaller than our Hague home base, and that gives them their own pace. You have more time to talk to the vendors, taste things, and walk a second round. We tune the line-up to the location: more plants and flowers by the lake, more delicacies, wine and charcuterie at the quay.

Between eleven and five you sometimes hear a street band alongside the chansons, stalls breathe out fresh coffee and panini, and brocante suitcases open one by one. An edition here feels like a short holiday that you take home with you in the evening.
