In short
Jewellery at Le Marie Marché comes straight from the maker. Goldsmiths from Zuid-Holland work in silver, bronze and gold; brocanteurs bring vintage pearls and art deco; younger designers experiment with textile, glass beads and sustainable metals. Pieces you will not see on five friends as well.
Jewellery at Le Marie Marché comes straight from the maker. Silversmiths from South Holland work in silver, bronze and gold; brocanteurs bring vintage pearls and art deco pieces; young designers experiment with textile, glass beads and sustainable metals. What they share is that they all stand behind their own work at the stall.
You can ask how a piece was made, whether it can be customised, and whether there is a story attached, which there often is. Some silversmiths take repairs or ring resizing right at the stall, others work by appointment. Vintage jewellery sometimes carries a history of an aunt, a market in Marseille or a family heirloom.
Our tip: try everything on. Silver asks for skin, a necklace belongs on a shoulder. Our vendors are happy to show you what a piece does once you wear it, even when you are still unsure. And ask about pieces you do not see on display, makers often keep their finest work just behind the stall.
