Many artists work on the spot, with a sketchbook, a watercolour pad or a small etching plate next to the stall. At our Place du Tertre style edition in the Hofkwartier they are even all painting in the open air. Ask if you can commission a piece or a portrait, that is possible more often than you might think.
Our tip: buy what moves you, even if you do not yet know where to hang it. Prints and small canvases start around twenty euros, originals from fifty. And ask whether the work comes with a certificate or an edition number, that is not a silly question at a market.
