In short
Brocante is the French tradition of vintage finds and old curiosities with character. At Le Marie Marché that means: enamelled jugs, old suitcases, lavender sachets, leather bags, antique mirrors and wooden furniture that does not fit a flat-pack box. Our brocanteurs travel France, Belgium and the Netherlands to bring back only what they themselves love.
Brocante lives by what has been passed from hand to hand. At Le Marie Marché you find objects that once had a first life in a French country house, a Belgian farm or a Hague attic. Our brocanteurs travel year-round, swap among themselves, and only buy what they would happily keep at home.
What you encounter is varied and seasonal. In spring you see more garden gear, enamelled pitchers and light furniture. In autumn the leather bags, old rugs, suitcases and books come forward. Feel free to ask about the origin of a piece, you usually get the whole story along with it.
Our tip for brocante: come with an open eye. The best finds are often not the ones you go looking for, but the ones you stumble onto when you take the time to look in a corner you first skipped and talk to the vendor for a moment. Unsure about a price or a piece? Ask about maintenance or restoration, that tells you more than any price tag.
